In pursuit of well-being - an experience in Polarity Therapy

Before coming to Polarity I was a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with a long standing interest in Yoga and bodywork therapies. I was attracted to Polarity because the framework was multi-disciplinary, very broad-based and imparted a deep sense of wholeness. Human beings are complex and it excited me that Polarity gave me several approaches for my application. In my practice a sense of wholeness and balance are vital for a return to well-being and Polarity offers an integrated way of working with clients.

As I alternate between the roles of Teacher, Practitioner, Mother and Wife the quality of each is enhanced, Polarity is my work and it is also a way of life. It contributes much to a healthy lifestyle and is a meaningful service to others.

The Four areas of intervention; The comprehensive Therapeutic bodywork; Nutrition and Naturopathic approaches to cleansing; Communication and Listening skills; the Polarity Yoga exercises, gives me an opportunity to see dramatic changes in clients and students. For example, I may see shifts on a mental attitudinal level reflected in the style of communication or a dissolving of long held stress or trauma levels as the body gives way to freedom from pain, illness or fatigue allowing itself to become re-educated in new ways of being in the world, or a completely new way of looking at nutrition.

At the beginning of a course one of my students told me that he did not want to study nutrition as he had no intention of working with this area. After doing the cleansing routine and learning more about food and its effects he ended the course having made a nutritional transformation which was a wonderful experience for him and also very rewarding for me to observe.

Nutrition and cleansing is an area of particular interest to me. Our diet and nutrition influences the quality of our state of mind and this in turn influences the choice of food and our behaviour. There is no perfect diet but there is a myriad of information around nutrition and I feel that an important consideration when making changes in our diet and selecting our foods is how it affects our consciousness. Is the diet allowing me to be clear, balanced and calm or does it overstimulate producing reactions such as a fuzzy head, headaches, lack of concentration, speedy and jerky irritable behaviour.

It is through our food that we take in energy from our environment, the quality of that food is important as it relates to the quality of energy released into the body for repair of cells and vitality. Our approach would be better informed if we saw food as our expression of how we are with our state of beingness in harmony with creation. Diet and Nutrition alone will not create a greater level of consciousness or emotional awareness but as part of a lifestyle it will support much transformation.

The main benefit of cleansing is the removal of waste and toxins from the body. The toxins are a natural by-product of the way we live, they are produced from the food we eat, stress and trauma in our lives, medicines, the environment and our own uneliminated waste. Cleansing is a gentle way of healing and restoring balance to tissues and organs, also of releasing blocks within our energy system and producing greater clarity.

If your diet consists of denatured food, overcooked vegetables and empty foods then you cannot receive the nourishment you deserve. Your body has to work very hard to eliminate the toxins. Since food affects your level of well-being, quality of energy and clarity, then each person can choose how they wish to be in the world, thus the relationship with food takes onboard a process of change. Disease cannot live in clean, vitalised tissues. Cleansing will improve the function of the immune system and boost energy levels.

Case history

Leslie was 35 years with 2 children and a part-time job. She came  to see me after years of suffering from Migraine, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Stress. She was taking Beta Blockers for her Migraine which was not effective as she did not know what it was like to be without a headache. She was also on medication for her Irritable Bowel Syndrome and this was also ineffective. She was constantly fatigued, in pain, experiencing either constipation or diarrhoea.

Migraine and Irritable Bowel Syndrome are connected to the Digestion and Irritable Bowel Syndrome is also connected to Elimination. In terms of the Five Element theory of Polarity, Digestion is governed by the Fire Element and Elimination is governed by the Earth Element so we can see a picture forming. I took detailed information on her diet and then we proceeded to do an Elimination Diet, that is removing certain foods from her everyday meals, then we introduced some vitamin and mineral supplements and at every session we worked to harmonise her body, mind and spirit.  For example some of the work we did together was to facilitate a rebalancing of her Central Nervous System, Digestive System, Eliminative System and Lympathic System.

On her third visit we embarked on some mild cleansing and by her fourth visit she was completely better, enjoying radiant health. Gone were the headaches, pain, fatigue and bowel problems. Now Leslie has all the energy and well-being she wants.
