Seagreens in a Plant-Based Diet
The popularity of plant-based diets, ranging from ‘flexitarians’ substituting animal derived foods for plant-based alternatives, to fully vegan diets, is increasing. A recent study showed that in the UK 2-3% of the population are choosing to eat plant-based diets.[1] Uptake of plant-based diet is rising with health consciousness, initiatives such as Veganuary, publicity such as The Game Changers film[2] and the accessibility of plant-based convenience foods. This has benefits for the environment and ethically, but it can leave deficiencies in the diet. Making Seagreens® Nutritious Food Seaweed a daily part of the plant-based diet ensures that almost every nutrient is present.
Nutritional deficiencies in a plant-based diet are particularly likely where consumers are choosing ultra-high processed convenience foods. In The Pitfalls of a Plant Based Diet, dietitian Priya Tew identifies in like-for-like meal swaps: “the plant-based versions can be higher in fat, sugar, and lower in micronutrients plus higher in terms of cost.”[3] Scientists are warning that certain dietary deficiencies such as iodine, may also be of consequence.[4] Symptoms of iodine deficiency include weight gain, muscle pain, lethargy, heart disease, cognitive impairment, and various cancers.[5]
The iodine in Seagreens is naturally occurring and has been found to maintain better sufficiency than common potassium iodide supplements.[7] Drawn from the ocean into the plant, iodine is chelated by proteins in the seaweed. These proteins, alongside other cofactors in Seagreens® species create a proven, safe and effective level of bioavailability, shown by independent research to be approximately 33% of stated total iodine.[6]
Studies in vegans and vegetarians show that 25% of vegetarians and almost 80% of vegans are iodine deficient, compared to 9% of those consuming omnivorous diets.[4]
In all diets, if the correct nutrients in the right volumes are not consumed, deficiencies will arise. However, some nutrient deficiencies such as magnesium, zinc, Vitamin B12 and iron are found to be significantly higher in plant-based diets with these nutrients being more abundant in animal products.[7]
Seagreens® certified Nutritious Food Seaweed is a great way to balance all the nutrients in the daily diet, since it contains virtually all the vitamins and minerals, amino acids, protein, essential fatty acids, enzymes, antioxidants, polyphenols, phlorotannins and soluble fibre. It is also an effective natural prebiotic.
Easy-to-use products such as Seagreens® Culinary Ingredient (100% Ascophyllum), Pelvetia Pieces (100% Pelvetia), or Food Capsules (Ascophyllum, Fucus, and Pelvetia) are a natural and effective way of improving the deficiencies in nutrients which are more difficult to find in plant-based diets. A concise booklet on daily use is available from info@seagreens.co.uk .

Tales of Brother Marcus – The Rose Priory Dialogues - Audible Audiobook
by Allan Armstrong
A group of unconnected people are invited to a meeting about the spiritual life at the Rose Priory, an ancient building that is the residence of a mysterious and secretive order. Little did they realize that the meeting was to be the beginning of an extraordinary mystical adventure...
Sound interesting? The author thinks so too! Listen to The Rose Priory Dialogues, and experience the compelling world of horror fiction.
PART ONE
A Remarkable Encounter
I first met the old monk in the autumn of 1981. A work colleague invited me to a meeting of people interested in the esoteric. I had agreed to go but without expecting much from it. The truth was I was quite worn-out and too tired to get excited about anything, because for the last five years, and with no great success, I’d been wandering the world looking for genuine exponents of the mystical life. I had not long since returned from a fascinating but fruitless visit to India, where I had spent the best part of a year looking for an Indian holy man...

John Cross Publications – Lesser Major and Minor Chakras; The Holistic Spine
Six years ago I wrote an article for this excellent publication saying that I was retiring from giving experiential seminars as I was the grand old age of 69. Since then I’ve had more comebacks than Frank Sinatra by giving at least twenty more seminars at home and abroad. Sadly, due to Covid (and that I am now 75) I really am hanging up my lecturing hat on the peg for good. It has been an absolute pleasure to partake to others my zeal for hands on (and hands off) healing. I’m also thrilled to have had many ‘converts’ during the 50 years of lecturing.
I have also completed my 12th and 13th publications in paperback – details below. These too will be my final books, but I hope to write many interesting articles in the future, and shall, of course, continue answering questions from practitioners from around the world.
In 1998 when I was approached by the Editor of Butterworth Heinemann in Oxford to write a couple of books on Acupressure and Reflexology for the newly formed Professional Complementary Therapies Imprint, I never dreamed that it would sprout ten more. In 2010, having dealt with British, American, and Continental publishers, with all the vagaries that that entails, I decided to go into self-publishing under the imprint of ‘John Cross Publications’. There are pros and cons in both formats, but I prefer to be in charge of my own literary destiny.
I am very proud to have written about the Chakra Energy System in many publications and have always attempted to take out the mystique that has always surrounded this aspect of traditional Ayurvedic medicine and to encourage practitioners to introduce my approach into their practices. The emails I have received over the years has proved to me that my work has not been in vain. Over the years I have taken criticism from those who think my work is too esoteric and has, obviously, no basis in science. Scientists don’t get the fact that not everything can be scientifically ratified. Others have accused me of writing it ‘as it is’ and not giving enough references. It is, though, difficult to offer bibliography and references when ones work is original and pioneering. There doesn’t seem to be room for ‘original thought’.
My latest offering concludes the set on the chakra energy system that began in 2006 with ‘Healing with the Chakra Energy System’ (North Atlantic Books, Berkeley, USA – 2006) in that it deals with the little known Lesser Major and Minor chakras. This was advertised in ‘Short Features’ of Positive Health Online, No. 273.
The final paperback book is a limited edition of just 100 copies and represents updated versions of Holistic Spine One and Two. The font is larger, and illustrations have improved, enabling the whole to flow easier. Much of the work is original. It also makes a terrific companion to the poster of the same name.
Please continue to support Positive Health Online. It is, by far, the best periodical that supports the practice of professional Complementary Medicine in all its forms.

Both books and poster are available through my web site – www.johncrosspublications.com
The Lesser Major Chakras paperback is £9.95
The Limited-Edition Holistic Spine paperback is £15.59

The Latest Rayonex Innovation: The New Rayoscan® Human and Rayoscan® VET
Over the past few years, Rayonex Biomedical GmbH in Germany have invested a lot of time, effort and money to further develop and innovate the Rayonex portfolio of both hardware and software. The most significant developments have been the new Rayocomp PS 1000 polar 4.0 and the redesign of the Rayocomp PS10 to comply with the newest medical device regulations, as well as the release of new bio-field forming devices, namely the Mini-Rayonex 5G, the 5G-Rayonator and - most recently - the Rayo®-Guard with its necklace holder.
Now the company released its greatest innovation yet: the new Rayoscan® for both the human and veterinary area. The Rayoscan® is the high-end software module based on heart rate variability for the Rayocomp PS 1000 polar 4.0. Through a fully automatic energetic test based on ECG analysis, the practitioner will be able to create a fully comprehensive, cause-oriented therapy proposal as a result.
The new Rayoscan® Human energetically evaluates 22 physiologies to determine those physiological areas that are in need of treatment from an energetic point of view. A further automatic scan in the cause-oriented area of the Rayonex Analysis and Harmonisation System (RAH) then determines the energetic burdens from pathogens, heavy metals, electro-smog, geopathic stress, environmental toxins and other select causes. In addition, the new Rayoscan® also features a handy Progress Analysis that shows the course (progress) of the therapy, for example on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis.
Your Benefits at a Glance
- The operation can be learned extremely quickly.
- An ECG-based application is known and familiar to both the therapist and the client.
- The determined therapy programs can be saved on a memory card for home therapy with a PS10 basic
- The integrated progress analysis shows the progress of the therapy on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis
- The Rayoscan® can also be used to determine the energetic fingerprint of the client.
- The Rayoscan® software is not a third-party development but was developed in Rayonex's own laboratories.
- Further developments of the module can easily be imported via an internet update.
- Future updates of the module can be downloaded free of charge on the Rayocomp PS1000 polar 4.0.
- The therapy programs determined by the Rayoscan® can be archived and emailed as a pdf file via a dedicated USB stick.

Ayurvedic Medicine – Most Ancient System of Medicine Known to Mankind
Ayurvedic Medicine, the most ancient system of medicine known to mankind, emerged within the Vedic culture that arose on the foothills of Himalayas and along the banks of the great rivers of India. It is based on the Vedic wisdom expounded by the ancient sages. Ayurveda is a science-based healthcare approach that treats illness and promotes wellness by focusing assessment on biochemically-unique aspects of each patient, and then individually tailoring interventions to restore psychological, physiological and structural imbalances. There has been a worldwide surge of interest in Ayurvedic medicine as people seek health and well-being. Ayurvedic medicine not only recognizes the uniqueness of the individual but also the oneness of all creation and how this translates into human health on all levels.
The basic principles upon which Ayurvedic medicine/healthcare operates are:
- Biochemical individuality based on genetic and environmental uniqueness
- Dynamic balance of internal and external factors
- Web-like interconnections of psycho-physiological processes
- Health as a positive vitality – not merely the absence of disease
- Promotion of organ reserve through psycho-neuro-immunological processes
- Patient-centred rather than disease focused healthcare
Using these principles, Ayurvedic healthcare practitioners focus on understanding the fundamental physiological processes, the environmental inputs, and the genetic predisposition that influence every person’s experience of health and disease. A person is considered an integral part of the Universe which is governed by natural laws. Ayurveda works primarily on human constitution called Dosha and Prakruti through lifestyle counselling, herbal preparations, nutrition, massage, yoga and Panchakarma all used to bring about balance and harmony in the body.
The College of Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy is the premier educator for individuals seeking to make a difference in the world through a career restoring the natural balance of body, mind and spirit with the wisdom of Ayurveda. This mission has been the central driving force of the College since its inception. The College of Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy is the only institution in the UK that offers a complete Ayurvedic programme comparable in content to the B. A. M. S. (Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine & Surgery) degree course taught in India.
The College aims to provide the most up-to-date and comprehensive Ayurvedic medical education. It promote the values of a tolerant and democratic society and the ideals of scholarship and the benefits of life-long education and training. It works to develop and support educational programmes and select a student body of such a size that every student has a quality and relevant educational experience, and provide students with clearly defined academic programmes, competent teaching, a caring and supportive academic structure and an attractive and facilitating environment.

Turning Point Training – Postgraduate Courses in Craniosacral Therapy and Homotoxicology
Turning Point Training offers postgraduate courses in Craniosacral Therapy and Homotoxicology. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds both in conventional and holistic disciplines. This allows an exchange of information and experience that enriches the learning experience. Courses are mixture of leading-edge, scientifically based theory and clinical and practical tuition. Students are encouraged to explore and develop their gifts and talents in bringing their unique experience to the disciplines taught. Students are thus empowered.
Top: Jonathan Lawrence BA DO Cert Ed and Rosemary Lawrence Dip BFD Cert Clin Hom Cert Ed
Bottom: Craniosacral Course 2019
Small groups help to facilitate this experience. Turning Point teachers are enthusiastic and experienced practicing therapists who keep their knowledge up to date.
The philosophy of Turning Point encompasses the idea that medicine is an art informed by science. We believe that the conventional materialist paradigm is very much out of date and that scientific knowledge has now reached a point where much of holistic medicine can incorporated into a new paradigm.
Turning Point courses introduce the concepts of research and encourage students to critically evaluate current information.
Craniosacral therapy is based on the relation of the relationship between the structure and function of the body and health. Specific, gentle and skilled manipulation can restore the structure-function relationship supporting the patients’ own homeostatic mechanisms. This non-invasive and safe therapy can be used on patients of all ages from the new-born to the elderly.
The Practitioner Course consists of 8 modules over 5 weekends (Friday afternoon to Sunday lunchtime) and 20 hours Zoom support days. In addition, students must complete a portfolio of case studies and complete an exam. Practical skills are assessed during the course. This course is recognized by the CMA.
The 2022 course dates are 8-10 April, 20-22 May, 1-3, 23-25 September and 7-9 October.
These courses are led By Jonathan Lawrence
Homotoxicology is based on the idea that disease results from toxic load. In modern life we are subject to toxins from a variety of sources. This has the effect of stressing the immune system leading to ill health. Accurate prescribing can help the body gently detoxify aiding the restoration of homeostasis.
The remedies used are single potency homeopathic remedies or combinations of remedies to achieve a specific physiological response.
There is access to online training via the Society of Homotoxicology, UK.
We provide further courses in Electro Acupuncture According to Voll (EAV) for suitably qualified students. This involves electro-acupuncture assessment of meridians and clinical application of findings. Training is via small tutorial groups led by Rosemary Lawrence. 2022 training dates are 16 March, 9 April, 2 July and 24 September.

Role of NLRP3 Inflammasome in Neurodegenerative Conditions
It has been shown that oxidative stress and inflammation are tightly linked to neurodegenerative pathologies, including Alzheimer´s disease (AD). Additionally, current studies have verified that redox homeostasis disruption and increased oxidative stress induce a cascade of events that include inflammasome activation.
Many studies suggest that ROS overproduction induces neuronal death and related pathological changes during AD. Additionally, as outlined in Figure 1 below, in both in vitro and in vivo studies and in post-mortem patient brain tissues, the key role of NLRP3 [NLR family pyrin domain containing 3] inflammasome activation in β-amyloid plaque deposition and p-Tau and APP (Amyloid Precursor Protein) overexpression has been shown.
Figure 1 Hericium erinaceus and NLRP3
Modulation of cellular stress and inflammatory pathways through small redox and anti-inflammatory molecules could be a useful approach to impede this cascade effect and possibly prevent or treat neurodegenerative diseases.
Hericium erinaceus biomass has displayed antioxidant activities by increasing antioxidant enzymes activities such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione (GSH) and reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. In addition, recent and novel finding indicates significant presence in the biomass of polyphenolic compounds, all these being compelling evidence suggesting health-promoting effects due to redox modulation exerted by this nutritional biomass.
Researchers at the University of Messina in Italy evaluated the effect of Hericium erinaceus biomass administration on reactive oxygen species and NLRP3 inflammasome activation that categorize AD in the following rat study. https://www.mdpi.com/2076-3921/10/11/1664
Conclusion
In this rat study, by decreasing both oxidative stress and NLRP3 inflammasome activation, Hericium erinaceus biomass manages the characteristics of AD: behavioural changes, phosphorylated Tau levels and aberrant APP overexpression, B-amyloid accumulation, and neuronal degeneration. While the results are encouraging, further studies are required.

The Future of Migraine Treatments – Migra-Cap®
What is a Migraine?
A migraine is a throbbing, intense headache in one half of the head. It can affect people of all ages. The cause of migraine is not known. During an attack, the blood vessels in the brain dilate and then draw together with stimulation of nerve endings near the affected blood vessels. These changes to the blood vessels are probably what cause the pain, but migraine headaches is a condition that is poorly understood.
What are the Typical Features of Migraine?
People often use the word migraine to refer to headaches of many different types. So-called classical migraine attacks have several features:
- Headaches that occur in bouts of between roughly 4 to 72 hours;
- Headaches usually affect one side of the head at a time, although both sides may be affected in separate attacks;
- Headaches are usually throbbing and worsened by normal physical activity nausea and/or vomiting;
- Preceding symptoms, called the 'aura' that most often are visual, such as zigzag lines or flashing lights across or at the edges of the fields of vision
- Other symptoms can include sensitivity to light and sound, or non-visual aura such as a sensation of tingling in the body.
The Migra Cap® is unique amongst migraine treatments as it combines cold therapy and complete darkness to provide relief from the pain associated with a migraine and most types of headaches.
