There are specially designed yoga blankets, but you can also find vibrant Mexican blankets (sarapes) at a relatively reasonable price that offer the desired length and firmness.

The Kidneys and the Kidney Meridian: A Vital Connection in Health and Energy
Kidneys are connected to the emotion of suppressed fear. This also affects the bladder.
The act of yawning helps to balance the kidney energy as part of the fight/ flight/freeze survival mechanism.
Dandelion plants can help with all keeping kidney health good. Using roots, leaves, stems and flowers in various ways i.e. teas, infusions, tinctures even added to a salad as a pretty and powerful addition!
The sacral chakra is indicated too as this is where the organs are located in the body.
Sacral chakra balancing cream is available using (essential oils and love!)

The Kidneys and the Kidney Meridian: A Vital Connection in Health and Energy
The kidneys play a crucial role in human health, filtering blood, balancing electrolytes, and regulating fluid levels. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the kidneys are even more significant, as they are considered the foundation of vital energy, or Qi. This connection is embodied in the Kidney Meridian, an essential energy pathway that influences multiple bodily functions. Understanding both the physiological and energetic aspects of the kidneys can help us maintain balance and well-being.
The Role of the Kidneys in Western Medicine
The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located on either side of the spine, just below the ribcage. They are part of the urinary system and have several vital functions, including:
- Filtration of Blood: The kidneys remove waste products, excess minerals, and toxins from the bloodstream, excreting them as urine.
- Regulation of Fluid Balance: They ensure the body maintains the right amount of water and electrolytes.
- Blood Pressure Control: The kidneys help regulate blood pressure by releasing renin, an enzyme that influences blood vessel constriction.
- Red Blood Cell Production: They produce erythropoietin, a hormone that stimulates red blood cell formation in the bone marrow.
- Acid-Base Balance: The kidneys help maintain a stable pH level in the body by excreting hydrogen ions and reabsorbing bicarbonate.
Kidney dysfunction can lead to serious conditions, including chronic kidney disease (CKD), high blood pressure, and electrolyte imbalances.
Essential oils: Kidney support cream by organic aromatherapy uses the power of essential oils to support good kidney health.

The Kidney Meridian in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
In TCM, the kidneys are not just physical organs but also an essential energetic system associated with longevity, vitality, and reproduction. The Kidney Meridian, or Shèn Jīng (肾经), is a pathway through which vital energy flows, influencing various physiological and emotional aspects of health.
Functions of the Kidney Meridian
- Stores Essence (Jing) – The kidneys are considered the foundation of Jing, the body’s inherited life force. This essence determines growth, development, and reproductive health.
- Governs Water Metabolism – The Kidney Meridian regulates fluid balance, similar to the kidneys’ function in Western medicine.
- Supports Bone Health – Strong kidneys contribute to healthy bones, teeth, and the production of marrow.
- Controls the Ears and Hearing – In TCM, hearing problems and tinnitus are often linked to kidney imbalances.
- Influences Emotional Well-being – Fear and insecurity are associated with kidney energy. A weakened Kidney Meridian may manifest as anxiety or a lack of confidence.
Pathway of the Kidney Meridian
The Kidney Meridian begins at the sole of the foot (Kidney 1, Yongquan), ascends along the inner ankle, travels up the inner leg, and continues through the abdomen, passing through the kidneys and up to the chest, ending at the collarbone.
Signs of Kidney Imbalance
A deficiency or imbalance in kidney energy can lead to:
- Chronic fatigue
- Lower back pain
- Weak knees or joint problems
- Frequent urination or water retention
- Premature greying of hair or hair loss
- Cold extremities
- Anxiety, fearfulness, or lack of willpower
Strengthening the Kidneys and Kidney Meridian
Diet and Nutrition
- Eat kidney-nourishing foods such as black beans, walnuts, seaweed, bone broth, and goji berries.
- Stay hydrated but avoid excessive intake of cold drinks, which can weaken kidney Yang.

Brain Supplements: Are They Worth Your Money?
Brain Guard® supplement aims to help with several aspects of mental performance that many of us find challenging:
- Mental Clarity: Helping you think more clearly and stay focused during important tasks
- Energy & Fatigue: Supporting mental energy levels when you're feeling drained
- Attention: Making it easier to concentrate and avoid getting distracted
- Memory: Supporting both short-term and long-term memory function
- Emotional Balance: Helping maintain a steady mood and manage daily stress
https://shop.mindbodygreen.com/products/brain-guard
What makes Brain Guard+ interesting is its approach to these issues. Instead of just providing a quick mental boost, it's designed to support your brain's health over the long term.
But before you get too excited about these promises, let's look at what's actually inside and what science tells us about these ingredients.
What's Inside: Breaking Down the Science
When we look inside Brain Guard+, we find three main ingredients that each play a different role in supporting brain health. Let's explore what each one does and – importantly – how you can find these nutrients in everyday foods.
Citicoline (500mg): The Brain Cell Communicator
Think of citicoline as your brain's messaging system upgrade. This compound plays a crucial role in how your brain cells talk to each other. Research, particularly in older adults, shows some promising results for memory and attention. The interesting thing about citicoline is that your body actually makes it naturally, but you can support this process through diet.
You can boost your natural citicoline levels by eating foods rich in choline, its building block. Here's where to find it:
- Start your day with eggs, especially the yolks, which are choline powerhouses
- Include protein-rich options like chicken and fish in your meals
- Try incorporating soybeans into your diet
- For the adventurous eaters, beef liver is an excellent source
Resveratrol (150mg): The Brain's Shield
You might have heard about resveratrol before – it's the compound that made red wine famous for potential health benefits. In Brain Guard+, they've included 150mg of resveratrol, which acts like a protective shield for your brain cells. While the long-term benefits are still being studied, early research suggests it might help keep your brain healthy as you age.
The good news is you can find resveratrol in several delicious foods:
- Enjoy red grapes as a snack
- Treat yourself to a glass of red wine (in moderation, of course)
- Munch on peanuts
- Add blueberries to your breakfast
- Savour some dark chocolate
Sceletium Extract (25mg): The Mood Supporter
Here's where things get interesting. Sceletium is a fascinating herb with a rich history in traditional South African medicine. Modern science is just starting to catch up with what traditional healers have known for centuries – this plant might help with mood and focus. While we need more research to fully understand how it works, early studies on stress and mood are promising.
Unlike the other ingredients, you won't find sceletium in your local grocery store – it's a specialized herb that's only found in supplement form. This is actually one of the reasons why Brain Guard+ includes it, as it's difficult to get through diet alone.
The Big Picture: What Science Says
Being honest about what we know and don't know is important. Here's what current research tells us about brain supplements like Brain Guard+:
Every brain is unique – what works wonders for your friend might do little for you. Most studies on these ingredients have been relatively short-term, and scientists typically test ingredients individually, not in combinations like we see in Brain Guard+. Additionally, while the FDA ensures these supplements are safe to take, they don't verify if they work as advertised.
The Bottom Line: A Balanced Approach
The best way to think about Brain Guard+ and similar supplements is as part of a larger brain health strategy. Your foundation should always be lifestyle basics:
- Fill your plate with colourful fruits and vegetables
- Make quality sleep a priority
- Keep your body moving with regular exercise
- Challenge your mind with new activities and learning
- Find healthy ways to manage daily stress
Think of brain supplements as potential enhancers to an already healthy lifestyle, not replacements for good habits. If you're interested in trying Brain Guard+, start by getting these basics in place and have a conversation with your healthcare provider about whether this supplement might be right for you.

How Optical Illusions Can Boost Your Brainpower
Can you Trust what you See - Are the Grey Lines Curved?
At first glance, the image below appears to show curved lines—but is that really the case? Optical illusions like this challenge the way our brain processes visual information, making them a powerful tool for sharpening cognitive skills.
Award-winning psychologist Dr Lalitaa Suglani reveals why it is important to engage in activities that stimulate the brain, including optical illusions, learning a new language and puzzle solving. Speaking to Twist Museum, an illusion museum offering guests a fully immersive experience, Dr Lalitaa Suglani shares the best methods to engage your brain and improve the skills related to intelligence.
Dr Lalitaa shares:
- Optical Illusions
Optical illusions, such as the one above, are a great way to exercise the brain and can contribute to skills associated with intelligence such as pattern recognition and cognitive flexibility:
Pattern recognition: is a key aspect of problem-solving and reasoning which is linked to IQ
Cognitive flexibility: being able to shift perspectives and adapt enhances abstract thinking - Puzzle Solving
Ensuring puzzle solving activities like crosswords, sudoku or logic puzzles can help to strengthen reasoning and problem solving. - Learn a new skill
Activities like learning a new language or learning how to play a new instrument can help to stimulate multiple areas of the brain and neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to change and adapt). - Mindfulness
Not only is engaging in mindfulness practices good for your stress levels, but it can help to improve brain function. Meditation and mindfulness helps to reduce mental clutter and improve a person’s focus and memory - Physical exercise
Taking part in a physical activity and regular exercise can help to improve blood flow which can enhance cognitive function
Why is it important to challenge the brain with IQ-boosting techniques?
“Challenging the brain with perception-based activities, like optical illusions, is like giving your mind a workout and can help generate improvements in four key areas of cognitive function. Engaging with activities like illusions train the brain to adapt, shift perspectives and tolerate ambiguity. It encourages mental flexibility - skills that enhance problem solving and critical thinking.
“Perception-based challenges also push us to think outside of the box. Creative thinking encourages alternative interpretations and unconventional solutions to help boost creativity.
“Concentrating on brain stimulating activities can help the mind to focus and be a form of mindfulness in itself. It requires attention to detail, promoting mindfulness and reducing stress through immersive engagement.
“Activities like this keep the brain agile by stimulating new neural pathways which can help to slow cognitive decline over time.”
Introducing Dr Lalitaa Suglani
Dr Lalitaa Suglani is a leading and award-winning psychologist specialising in mental wellbeing, anxiety and relationships. Dr Lalitaa is the author of High-Functioning Anxiety: Five Steps to Learning You Are Good Enough and previously hosted her original podcast Therapised. Dr Lalitaa has been cited across mainstream media including MailOnline, Hello! Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, The Times and LadBible, and appeared on Abbey Clancy’s Exhibit A podcast and Happy Place hosted by Ferne Cotton
Introducing Twist Museum
Twist Museum is located in central London’s iconic Oxford Circus. Through a combination of science and art, the museum aims to bring people together, challenging them and encouraging them to discuss and reflect on how we all perceive the world differently.
The letters TWIST are an acronym for “The Way I See Things”, a phrase that has formed the nucleus for all the thinking at the museum – that people’s interpretations of reality and understanding of the world around them is shaped by their unique, individual perspective. It is the perfect playground for your perceptions.
Illusions are distortions of perception, where the brain misinterprets sensory information. These illusions can affect various senses, including vision, hearing, touch, and cognition. Below is a list of different types of illusions categorized by sensory modality.
Illusions span across multiple sensory and cognitive domains, demonstrating the complexity of human perception. These phenomena highlight how our brain constructs reality based on sensory input, expectations, and contextual clues.
Twist Museum helps visitors to discover, explore, and have fun through educational and entertaining exhibits that showcase the history and science of illusion. It offers an interactive and immersive experience that allows visitors to participate in and experience the illusions themselves in an engaging and informative way.
