Integrated Medical Centre

The Integrated Medical Centre (IMC) is a unique concept in healthcare, the first of its kind in Europe, where practitioners have blended conventional, complementary and traditional medicines, to produce safe and effective treatments for each patient. Unlike conventional medicine, the aim of the IMC is to use allopathic practices only as a last resort. Instead, patients are taught preventative methods and encouraged to participate in their own healthcare and help the body, wherever possible, to heal itself.

Integrated Medical Centre

David Lintonbon DO PG Cert (clin ed) qualified from the British School of Osteopathy in 1985 and Brighton University as a Clinical Educator. David not only devotes his time with his private patients and developing IMC; he also teaches Osteopathic manipulative skills worldwide.

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a treatment aimed at the whole person rather than a specific ailment. In its simplest form it diagnoses structural problems in the musculoskeletal system, which are corrected by corresponding manipulative treatments. Causes of problems include occupational or sport related injuries, repetitive strain injury, emotional tensions and internal diseases.

Dry Needling

This uses the concept of placing acupuncture needles in the site of pain, which stimulates the body's production of endorphin a natural painkiller. This can be further assisted by the use of a TENS machine.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy

Antoinette Phillips has been practising as a Sports Massage therapist for over 10 years. Coming from South Africa, she has combined these skills with dry needling and Cranio-sacral therapy to great effect. Mothers Babies and Children are also her specialist area. Imbalances in the cranio-sacral mechanism often begin before birth, and difficult deliveries can be responsible for imbalances. This is an especially successful therapy for infants and children.

Deep Tissue Therapeutic Massage

Deep Tissue Therapeutic Massage employs a wide variety of gentle yet specific manipulation techniques to ease the body back towards its natural balance. Therapeutic Jatropha and Moringa oils may be to assist the manipulation of muscles and connective tissue.

Raising Funds for Southern Africa TLC Orphanages

A unique health store within Integrated Medical Centre supplies a wide range of health products,  carefully selected for their quality, effectiveness and therapeutic value, especially the Jatropha and Moringa oils and gels. These are sold to raise funds for the TLC Orphanages in Southern Africa, who are developing schools and sustainable agricultural projects for HIV orphans. To donate to this project, please send Cheque made payable to TLC Orphanages, 49 Julius House, New North Road, Exeter, Devon, EX4 4HG.  www.tlcorphanages.co.uk

Cranio Sacral Reflexology Academy

Cranio-Sacral Reflexology, devised by Osteopath Dr Martine Faure Alderson  specializing in Cranio-Sacral Therapy, is a complete non-invasive treatment in its own right, very effective for all ages. Dr Faure Alderson is also a trained physician in Homeopathy, a Bachelor of Acupuncture, and a Reflexologist, who has been practising and teaching reflexology for many years. In 1974 she set up her first School of Reflexology in Paris. After many years of clinical experience, she has integrated her expertise in Cranio-sacral therapy, Reflexology and other disciplines into Cranio-Sacral Reflexology, which she has pioneered in many  countries around the globe.

Cranio Sacral Reflexology Academy

When working with Cranio-Sacral Reflexology, the energy is balanced between the feet and the head. Through this homeostasis is achieved, effectively  addressing a large variety of system dysfunctions. By assessing the body, mind and spirit, assessing the primary respiratory mechanisms and  working on the three levels of man, the patient's energy can be renewed.

Training is offered to qualified Reflexologists and takes place over the period of a year, consisting of 8 days of teaching over 2 Levels: Advanced and Third Level. The Training also includes periods of home study and case study preparation. This leads to a post-graduate Diploma in Cranio-Sacral Reflexology with membership into the Cranio-Sacral Reflexology Academy.

The Healing Trust

The Healing Trust is the new working name of The National Federation of Spiritual Healers Charitable Trust Ltd. A registered charity, it is the largest Healer membership organisation in the UK, with over 5000 members. Spiritual Healing complements conventional medicine by treating the whole person – mind, body and spirit. Spiritual Healers act as a conduit for healing energy which relaxes the body, releases tensions and stimulates self-healing. The benefits of healing can be felt on many levels, not just the physical, and the effects can be profound.

The Healing Trust

The Healing Trust works to promote public health by making spiritual healing a choice for healthcare professionals and individuals alike. Members of the public can receive spiritual healing through their UK Referral Service (Tel: 01604 60324), at NFSH The Healing Trust Centres, at Exhibitions, and through NHS support services.

The Healing Trust also provides training courses which support the personal spiritual growth of the individual. Courses will also be available in 2010 for Healthcare professionals. Healers who belong to The Healing Trust complete a two-year comprehensive programme of training, practise and on-going support and development. Members are bound by a Code of Conduct and are all fully insured.

Healing and the NHS

Doctors are permitted to refer patients for spiritual healing, and Healing Trust healers may also attend hospital in-patients who request their services. There are currently two NFSH Healing Trust members known to be working as Healers in NHS hospitals paid by the NHS. Other Healers work with GPs and in hospices and cancer centres.

Research

The Healing Trust supports and welcomes scientific research into Spiritual Healing. Out of 191 randomized controlled studies of healing, 124 showed significant effects.  In October 2009 NFSH The Healing Trust were successful in obtaining £205,000 lottery funding for medical research into our healing.

Health Benefits of Headsets

Wearing a headset is good for your health. Cradling a conventional handset between ear and shoulder is a major source of back and neck pain, as it puts the muscles under unnatural strain and stress. Often called 'phone neck', it is a common complaint among telephone and mobile phone users.

Health Benefits of Headsets

Neck and back pain are one of the main reasons for employees being off work through ill-health, which, according to a 2006 survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, costs businesses an average of £600 per employee every year.

Research has shown that wearing a headset, rather than using a regular telephone handset, can help alleviate these problems. A study by the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, California, demonstrated that using a headset can reduce muscle tension of the kind that leads to muscle strain and chronic pain by as much as 41%. The three-month study involved 62 people between the ages of 20 and 63 years old. All of the participants used the telephone for a minimum of three hours per day to perform their jobs. Using conventional telephone handsets, they undertook tests that evaluated the various levels of muscle tension resulting when they engaged in other common tasks, such as reading, note-taking and typing on a computer, at the same time as they were on the phone. In the second stage of the research, they exchanged the handset for a headset and repeated the tasks. The results showed that using a headset as opposed to a handset while reading something reduced muscle tension by 41%. The reduction when writing was 36.5% and when typing, 31.4%.

A second study, from the University of Surrey in the UK, supports these findings. The detailed two-month study analysed the postures adopted when using the telephone. All participants regularly used the phone and computer simultaneously during their work. Each was monitored for four weeks using a traditional telephone handset and then for four weeks using a headset. The results showed that using a headset reduced neck pains by 31%, lower back pain by 16% and upper back pain by 9%. Additionally, headaches were reduced by 27%.

Acupressure Mats

The Acupressure Mat may help in relieving numerous ailments from back and neck pain to stress, headaches and insomnia. Currently the top selling health product in Sweden, the Acupressure Mat was designed based on the Indian bed of nails, renowned for its healing powers and used for thousands of years in relaxation, meditation and yoga.

Made from non-allergic plastic and consisting of a high density of plastic nails which are precisely
arranged, this easy to use and highly effective acupressure device eliminates muscle pain, increases
the flexibility of joints and increases resistance to muscle fatigue by stimulating the body's internal
abilities to heal itself.

The Acupressure Mat may provide effective treatment for

  • Lower and Upper Back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Knee pain
  • Slipped discs
  • Muscle and Joint pain in general
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches
  • Chronic fatigue

How does it work?

There are many factors that indicate that the body produces the hormones endorphins and oxytocins
when using the Acupressure Mat. When the body is relaxed it is better able to heal and recover from injury. When the body releases endorphins, it becomes more relaxed and the pain threshold is
raised. The pressure from the 'nails' will stimulate blood flow and lymph circulation. Damaged or worn tissue is repaired and new cells grow where they are needed. Also by increasing the body's production of oxytocin, the body optimizes its performance and durability instead of manipulating it.

    Nanomagnetic Discs Target Cancer Cells

Nanomagnetic materials offer exciting avenues for probing cell mechanics and activating mechanosensitive ion channels, as well as for advancing cancer therapies. Most experimental works so far have used superparamagnetic materials. This report describes a first approach based on interfacing cells with lithographically defined microdiscs that posses a spin-vortex ground state.

When an alternating magnetic field is applied, the microdisc vortices shift, creating an oscillation, which transmits a mechanical force to the cell. Because reduced sensitivity of cancer cells towards apoptosis leads to inappropriate cell survival and malignant progression, selective induction of apoptosis is of great importance for the anticancer therapeutic strategies. The authors show that the spin-vortex-mediated stimulus creates two dramatic effects: compromised integrity of the cellular membrane and initiation of programmed cell death. A low-frequency field of a few tens of herz applied for only ten minutes was sufficient to achieve -90% cancer-cell destruction in vito.
