The Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) 

In this part 3 of the Chakra articles, we look at the Solar Plexus Chakra. This chakra is located below the heart, where your ribs join. The colour association is yellow and the sacred sound is Ram.

The Solar Plexus chakra governs digestion, the nervous system and the immune system.  This is the centre of your personal Power.  On an emotional level, this chakra deals with your fear.  This key negative emotion spawns all others and can drive every other emotion. Fear arises in a situation where the outcome is uncertain.

Some signs that the Solar Plexus chakra is out of balance are:

• If you are prone to common viruses;
• If you feel angry all the time;
• If you blame others for your situation in life;
• If you blame yourself for your situation in life;
• If you feel fearful of imagined outcomes;
• If you have digestive problems, or on-going stomach/ colon pain;
• If you are lacking spontaneity;
• If you allow others to dominate you;
• If you wish to dominate others.

Releasing Energies

There may be times when you feel the need to release energies from the Solar Plexus chakra, one way to do this is to dance or hula hoop, anything that involves the twisting and turning of your spine is beneficial.

Stones Associated with the Third Chakra

• Citrine - Opens the doors to increased clarity of thought. Activates the second, third and sixth chakra portals. Pair with Amethyst to bring in spiritual energies from the higher realms;
• Yellow Jasper - Assists you to reclaim your capacity to feel the electromagnetic currents of the earth.  Assists in the regeneration of the body and slows aging. Facilitates communication with an unborn child;
• Serpentine - One of the best stones for awakening the Kundalini energies. Carrying, wearing or meditating with this stone can help establish the order intended by Nature. 
• Honey Calcite - A stone that gently amplifies energy. It also assists in the challenges associated with change. It  enhances psychic abilities, astral projection and higher consciousness. It also enhances intellect and memory.  Physically, honey calcite is used in crystal healing for kidneys, bladder, female organs, menopause. It is an excellent massage stone. Particularly good for children who have problems with bed-wetting.

Grounding and Balancing

Sit where you will be undisturbed. Close your eyes and breathe deeply so that your out-breath is longer than your in-breath. Put your hands in your lap, palms up, on top of each other. Left hand underneath, its palm touching the back of the fingers of the right hand. The tips of the thumbs touch gently. Visualize roots growing from the soles of your feet where they connect with the ground. Push these roots deeply into Mother Earth.

Bring your concentration to the Solar Plexus chakra. Breathe deeply keeping your spine straight. Begin to breathe in the colour yellow. Visualize a yellow stream of colour entering your body through your Solar Plexus chakra and as you breathe, allow the colour to completely fill the area surrounding your Solar Plexus. Chant the sound RAM. When you feel energized, slowly recede the roots into the soles of your feet and bring yourself back to waking reality.
