Shattering the Cancer Myth - Positive and Practical Tools to Heal Your Life
by Katrina Ellis
Published by Publicious Self-Publishing. Softback. £18.80. 2013 4th edition. ISBN 0987466941.
The newly released fourth edition of Shattering the Cancer Myth is not only a remarkable story of Katrina Ellis’ own personal triumph over terminal cancer, but a practical and comprehensive positive guide to cancer treatment using traditional and natural therapies. Containing the latest in progressive cancer therapies, cutting edge natural medicines and detailed supplement programs to complement surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment, Shattering the Cancer Myth has sold over 70,000 copies worldwide.
Ellis has been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from readers, many who credit the book in helping them gain back their health, with award-winning journalist Leslie Kenton adding ‘this book has soul’. Ellis conquered malignant ovarian cancer at age 27 and has been a practising naturopath, iridologist and herbalist for close to 20 years, working from her natural health centre, based at Kirra Beach on the Gold Coast.
The fourth edition of the book is comprised of three parts - firstly Katrina’s physical and spiritual journey to uncover the truth and determination to survive. This is followed by a complete cancer manual ranging from successful natural treatments, the positives and negatives of orthodox treatments and useful techniques to harness the power of your mind. Lastly, a resource guide valuable for anyone in preventing this disease whilst maintaining brilliant health. Shattering the Cancer Myth has been rewritten to include new innovative cancer therapies, full supplement support and diet programs for various cancer types, also includes a new chapter by Dr Joachim Fluhrer MD, an Integrative Medicine Practitioner combining General Practice with evidence based Gene Diagnosis and Complementary Medicine. In March 2013 Ellis released Raw Addiction, the book containing the recipes and diet that she credits as helping her overcome cancer, which is now an Australian bestseller.
About Katrina Ellis
Katrina Ellis graduated as a qualified naturopath, herbalist and iridologist in 1995. She spent worked for the ex-prime minister of Thailand in his five star health resort, Chiva-Som where she managed the ‘natural health department’ and performed consultations, designed an organic food line and co-wrote the Chiva-Som cookbook. While in Thailand she developed a rare form of cancer, after exposure to a toxic agent. After many misdiagnoses and being told she would not live past the year, she embarked on a campaign to save herself with natural medicine. A few months later she was cancer free and from this experience wrote the 2003 international best seller Shattering the Cancer Myth.

The Healthy House - Protection from Electromagnetic Stress
In the last ten to fifteen years, our exposure to electromagnetic fields has increased phenomenally. Our houses and offices are filled with electronic gadgetry from TVs to microwave ovens and X boxes. Now we are accompanied by mobile phones, MP3 players or tablets and are also affected by those of others - in Wi-Fi buildings, public transport, cafes, schools and colleges. At work many people spend the majority of their day on a computer and surrounded by electrical machines. All these electrical appliances give off electrical fields. Most offices and homes have Wi-Fi and many use DECT (digital cordless) phones.
Increase in exposure to electromagnetic fields has resulted in an escalation of a condition known as electrical sensitivity. We feel that those suffering from electrical sensitivity are ‘canaries in the mine’; over time more and more people will be suffering these effects.
Symptoms of the Effects of Electromagnetic Fields
Symptoms caused by exposure to EMFs can vary from mild to severe. If you do not experience EMF symptoms it doesn't necessarily mean that your body is not affected. We do not yet know what the long term effects will be.
Symptoms can Include:
- Immune dysfunction: colds, flu and increasing ill health;
- Psychological problems: inability to concentrate, increased anxiety, depression, aggression, irritability, anguish, apathy, insomnia and memory loss;
- Increased instance of epileptic seizures;
- Dizziness, vertigo, disorientation, breathlessness;
- Loss of appetite, nausea;
- And many more (References available at www.healthy-house.co.uk )
Protection is Becoming Increasingly Important
There are ways of reducing exposure and helping to protect oneself and one's family. The Healthy House offers a wide range of products to help to reduce the effects of exposure to EMFs. These include meters and monitors so that you can measure the fields, products for personal protection, products to protect you in your home or office and mobile phone and electronic equipment protection.
1. Measure the Fields
There are two major sources of EMFs: electrical appliances and wiring, and wireless microwaves from mobile phones, cordless phones, Wi-Fi, mobile telephone masts and base stations and Tetra masts. These fields are silent; it is only by measuring them that you are aware of their presence. Use a Professional EMF meter to find the source of the electro-magnetic fields around you to determine areas in your home (or office) with the highest levels. Move beds and furniture to avoid spending the majority of your time in areas of high electrical and magnetic fields. Use an Electrosmog Detector to hear the microwave radiation pulsing from mobile phones, Wi-Fi, cordless phones; take measures to reduce your exposure.
2. Reducing Exposure to Electric and Magnetic Fields
- Move furniture, beds and seating away from areas of high electrical fields;
- Bear in mind high fields from electrical appliances that are in close contact with the body such as hair dryers and electric blankets. Also be aware that electrically operated adjustable beds and furniture give off strong magnetic fields;
- Electric clocks, and clock radios should be at least one metre from your head and baby alarms should be placed at least one metre from the baby;
- Sit as far away as possible from VDUs and TVs;
- Use protective devices such as Green8s or electroDOTs to harmonize the fields.
3. Reducing Exposure to Microwave Radiation
- Carry your mobile phone in a blocsock, away from direct contact with your body;
- Replace your DECT phone with a corded phone - DECT phones emit high fields 24/7;
- If you cannot replace your DECT phone, use protective products on the base station and handsets; don’t keep base station on a bedside table or close to where you spend time;
- Turn Wi-Fi off at night, or use dLAN to connect to the Internet through the house wiring (this works for PCs and laptops but not for tablets or MP3 players;
- Use Air Low Radiation headset with mobile phone; reduces the fields at the head >99%;
- Use a Green8, electroDOT or other protective devices on mobile phones, laptops, etc.

The 3E program, which is based on the analysis of case histories of thousands of people who have survived late stage cancer, is also described for the first time. Learn why so many people die of cancer, and why so many others do not. This book not only supplies an incredible amount of information, it also helps the cancer patient to find his own way to cure cancer through the active exercises of the 3E program.

The College of Āyurveda (UK)
The College of Āyurveda (UK) offers the most comprehensive curriculum in the field of Āyurveda in the United Kingdom and Europe, based on the recommendations of the Dept. of AYUSH, New Delhi, India. The College of Āyurveda (CoA) was first established in 1997 under the aegis of the Āyurvedic Medical Association (UK). In 2000, the CoA was registered under the Companies House, UK, and in 2006 the CoA developed a collaborative partnership with the Middlesex University, London.
The College offers a three-year Diploma in Āyurvedic Healthcare programme for Clinical Āyurvedic Therapists (CAyT). The College’s Distance Learning programme is a revolutionary programme that integrates home schooling, classroom education and one-to-one relationship with a Tutor who guides the students’ education. Distance learning is available in all theory-related (academic) learning; however, attendance is mandatory for all practical and clinical training. At the end of first and second academic year of study the students spend one week with an instructor in a small group study session in order to gain hands-on experience in practical and diagnostic aspects of the curriculum and participate in group discussions. At the end of year three the students attend 12-weeks of clinical practice in India, which is mandatory for Certification as Clinical Ayurveda Therapist. The College is currently planning a 4-year Ayurveda Practitioner level programme in collaboration with Ayurveda institute in India.
An Overview of Āyurveda
Āyurvedic Medicine is the most ancient system of medicine known to mankind. It emerged within the Vedic culture that arose in the foothills of Himalayas and along the banks of the great rivers of India. It is based on the Vedic wisdom expounded by the ancient sages. Āyurveda is a science-based healthcare approach that treats illness and promotes wellness by focussing assessment on biochemically unique aspects of each patient, and then individually tailoring interventions to restore psychological, physiological and structural imbalances.
The basic principles upon which Āyurvedic medicine/healthcare operates are:
- Biochemical individuality based on genetic and environmental uniqueness;
- Dynamic balance of internal and external factors;
- Web-like interconnections of psycho-physiological processes;
- Health as a positive vitality – not merely the absence of disease;
- Promotion of organ reserve through psycho-neuro-immunological processes;
- Patient-centred rather than disease focused healthcare.
Using these principles, Āyurvedic healthcare therapist / practitioners focus on understanding the fundamental physiological processes, the environmental inputs, and the genetic predisposition that influence every person’s experience of health and disease. A person is considered an integral part of the Universe which is governed by natural laws.

Olive Oil World Launches New UK Programme
Olive Oil World, the Europe-wide promotion program of the European Union’s olive oils, has joined forces with Greek producers to bring its initiative to the UK. Part of the campaign will focus on educating consumers about the health-giving properties of olive oil and how it can both treat and prevent a number of illnesses.
Arteriosclerosis
Olive oil can make a difference in the treatment of arteriosclerosis – where cholesterol-rich patches (known as atheromas) deposit on the walls of the arteries which stops blood from reaching the tissues and obstructs the functioning of vital organs, such as the heart and brain. Conditions associated with arteriosclerosis include angina and heart attack. It has been demonstrated that olive oil has an effect in preventing the formation of blood clots and platelet aggregation commonly associated with arteriosclerosis, and that olive-oil-rich diets can counteract the effect of fatty foods in encouraging blood clot formation, thus contributing to the low incidence of heart failure in countries where olive oil is the principal fat consumed.
Cholesterol
Diets containing a large amount of animal fats raise blood cholesterol level, a risk factor of cardiovascular disease. Olive oil lowers the levels of total blood cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides. It does not alter the levels of HDL-cholesterol (and may even raise them), which plays a protective role and prevents the formation of fatty patches, thus stimulating the elimination of the low-density lipoproteins. The beneficial effect of olive oil consumption with regard to cardiovascular disease occurs in primary prevention, reducing the risk of developing the disease, and in secondary prevention, preventing recurrence after a first coronary event.
Osteoporosis
Olive oil also appears to help sufferers of Osteoporosis, a condition where a reduction in bone tissue mass increases the risk of fractures. There are two types. Type I occurs in middle-aged, post-menopausal women and type II in the elderly. Olive oil appears to have a favourable effect on bone calcification, and bone mineralization is better the more olive oil is consumed. It helps calcium absorption, thereby playing an important part during the period of growth and in the prevention of osteoporosis.
Cognitive Function
Diets rich in olive oil may also prevent memory loss in healthy elderly people. A direct relationship between the consumption of olive oil and a greater chance of avoiding age-related cognitive decline has been observed in studies, and is believed to occur because the monounsaturated fatty acids contained in olive oil are believed to help maintain the structure of the brain cell membranes since the demand for these acids appears to grow during ageing.
The same studies have also observed that the quantity of olive oil consumed was inversely proportional to age-related cognitive decline and memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Digestive Intelligence - A Holistic Vision of Your Second Brain
by Irina Matveikova MD
Published by Findhorn Press. 2014. Softback. £9.99. ISBN978-1-84409-643-5.
“… there is constant communication between the two brains: the one inside our skull and its brother down there in our gut. I can assure you that the relationship between the two brains, which involves hormonal, metabolic, and emotional levels, is very complex - we could even call it “intellectual”; it is also normally quite democratic and mutually respectful.”
How to resolve all your digestive problems from irritable bowel syndrome to constipation
- 15% of the adults in the western world suffer constipation and have high risk of colon cancer;
- More than 300 million cases of depression worldwide are linked to problems with the ‘second brain’.
According to Dr Anton Emmanuel, consultant gastroenterologist at University College Hospital in London, 40% of people in the UK are suffering from one kind of digestive disorder or another, including IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) heartburn, acid reflux, chronic constipation, diarrhoea and peptic ulcers. In her book, Digestive Intelligence: A Holistic Vision of Your Second Brain (Findhorn Press, May 2014), Dr Irina Matveikova explores the link between “the brain in our skull and its brother down there in our gut”.
Dr Matveikova writes as a traditionally trained medical doctor who also embraces much of the wisdom to be found in ‘complimentary’ forms of medicine; the result is a combination of medical science, psychology and natural health. Digestive Intelligence takes the reader on a fascinating journey through the digestive system explaining how it operates as a second brain and how we think and live our emotions via our stomachs. Approximately one million neurons are found in our digestive track producing serotonin, known as the ‘happy’ hormone; it makes sense that when our ‘digestive system’ is “out of sorts” we too feel irritable, lacking in energy and in a bad mood and vice versa. Dr Matveikova makes the connection and gives practical advice to assist readers gain a better sense of and understanding of the ‘intelligence’ of the gut. The goal is to help readers identify digestive problems and resolve them.
About the Author
Dr Irina Matveikova is licensed in Medicine, Endocrinology and Clinical Nutrition by the University of Minsk (Belarus). She is also a certified expert in Eating Disorders Behaviour.

Original Tomatis Listening Therapy at The Listening Centre London
The Listening (Voice, Music&Language) Centre London is in its 14 year of operation. Ella Williams, consultant and practitioner is one of the few centres worldwide that still offers Listening therapy in its original form as developed and advised by Dr Tomatis. Nowadays there are quite a number of therapies that are more or less based on his work and sorting through the confusing array of choices can be daunting.
The original Tomatis uses analogue sound and not digital - that is taped music and not CDs. The implications of this are profound. The brain doesn’t work in a digital way! Contrary to what might be propagated about digital sound being superior, the important fact is that the brain does not process information, auditory or otherwise in a digital way. The use of digital sound in any therapy is fundamentally flawed. The question of digital versus analogue is literally a ‘no brainer’. It is true that tapes degrade, but tapes are regularly replenished, which means that the sound quality is not compromised
D.I.Y, for home use devices appear to be more convenient and an easier way to do the therapy but the daily, on the spot, observation and guidance of the therapist should not to be underestimated or undervalued. At a centre you will be assessed and treated having the reassurance that the specialised equipment being used is maintained and functions as it should. Furthermore many clients appreciate this special time just for themselves, as the treatment is both invigorating and relaxing. Removing yourself from daily distractions and making time in a comfortable and different environment enables you to let yourself relax sufficiently to fully immerse yourself in the process. Tomatis said that ultimately it is the therapist that brings the healing, or as one of my clients said, “holds Jacob’s ladder”. Many people appreciate the exchange of thoughts and ideas in an encouraging atmosphere.
An integral aspect of the original therapy is supervised active microphone work of chanting, music making, singing or reading, allowing musicians and indeed all clients to make adjustments naturally and effortlessly to their own vocal or musical output. For children the use of the Mother's voice is an important part of the therapy, as Dr Tomatis believed our desire to communicate is activated by hearing our Mother's voice in utero. Only in the context of a centre will there be professional feedback and audiometric testing to confirm that changes are taking place. It is an effort worth making.

Light Medicine: Evolving Our Body, Our Life and Our Planet
by Dr Michael D Winer.
Published by BalboaPress. 2013. Softcover $33.99; Hardcover, $44.99; Ebook, $3.99.
ISBN: 978-1-4525-7150-8 (sc); 978-1-4525-7152-2 (hc); 978-1-4525-7151-5 (e)
Dr Michael D Winer explains how working with light and an emotional process can resolve health problems.
“Light is the basic building block and nutrient for our body,” said Dr Winer. “How we engage and interact with light has profound consequences for health, fulfilment and creativity.”
He explains this concept in his book Light Medicine: Evolving Our Body, Our Life and Our Planet. The book is a guide to help people take charge of their life, health and future through Dr Winer’s unique healing process. He explains the importance of an emotional healing process to take care of ourselves, to more effectively engage light, to resolve disease and dysfunction, to achieve optimal health benefits and to realize our potential.
Dr Winer shows that an effective emotional process can help people address all levels of their energy, from the physical to the most abstract. He is pioneering a new healing paradigm based on research showing how we use light and energy in our body determines whether we experience health or disease. Dr Winer explains that emotional and energetic issues adversely affect how we use light and energy, leading directly to our health concerns.
According to Winer, “Our body and life are expressions of light and energy. We can develop and use them in unprecedented ways. Of particular interest, this work highlights the possibility of developing enhanced physical body function and new forms of human expression. To achieve these possibilities, we need to overcome limiting programs and emotional patterns. Instead of just playing out our programming and patterns, we can heal our limitations, realize more of our potential and become more fully alive.”
About the Author
Dr Michael D Winer is a healer and a teacher of the healing arts. He is a chiropractic physician, having received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his doctorate degree from Western States Chiropractic College. Defiant Beauty’s Cosmetics range, created specifically for cancer patients
In the USA 50% of the population is expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lives.[1] In the UK, we are not far behind with one in three predicted to be diagnosed.[2] Many patients suffer a variety of skin disorders from radiation or chemotherapy treatments, which add to the worry of this life-threatening condition. Visible signs include chapped lips, itchy dry, sore and sensitive skin, flaking palms and feet, and blotchiness or darkening of the skin around the joints or veins.[3] Hair loss is common but many do not realize that this means that eyebrows and eyelashes may also be lost. Research has found that many women are more concerned about the impact of treatment on their looks than they are about the treatment itself.[4]
Following the success of the Defiant Beauty Skincare Collection (a natural and luxurious skincare range created specifically for cancer patients) Defiant Beauty have developed a mineral make-up collection. The Defiant Beauty Cosmetics were created in order to meet the needs of cancer patients. Women don’t stop being women when they get cancer, but fear not being able to recognize themselves and the impact their physical changes can have on others.
The make-up is specifically for use during treatment and beyond, was formulated using natural mineral ingredients; it has high levels of pigmentation and staying power. Women do not want their ‘new’ eyebrows and lashes to disappear by the end of the day. The colours and textures in the collection have been chosen to add a healthy glow and up-lift and all products are suitable for the dry, sensitive ‘chemo-skin’ often experienced by cancer patients.[3] Cancer strips back nearly every element of being a woman. Defiant Beauty empowers sufferers to feel beautiful again and face the world with their head held high.
Jennifer Young, the creator of Defiant Beauty and Editor of www.BeautyDespiteCancer.co.uk is an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Medicine, a Biologist and a Micro-biologist. She is a qualified and practising Nutritional Therapist, a qualified Aromatherapist, Beauty Therapist and Product Formulator and has been active in medical research. Jennifer combines the knowledge from all of these areas and applies them to the Defiant Beauty Collections. The Defiant Beauty range uses minimal ingredients, is oil-based, fragrance-free, and also free from preservatives. Hair care and tanning range are to be launched September 2013.

Jane had developed M.E.
Fast-forward to today and Jane is a busy mum of three with more energy than many women half her age. She heads up her own engineering company, practises as a trained counsellor - and has just completed the first in a series of books that could help fellow sufferers of ME (Myalgic encephalomyelitis otherwise known as chronic fatigue syndrome), and those with related conditions, including fibromyalgia and depression, to reclaim their lives.
Written under her pen name Mary Ancillette, Up To Me is a self-development manual - a tool kit offering any of us stressed out by modern living, a life-affirming fix. But the unique programme on which it is based has proved more than that for those imprisoned by a condition once dismissed as ‘yuppie flu’, which affects more than half a million people in the UK, including an increasing number of children.
Although the exact cause of ME, which attacks the nervous and immune system, is still unclear, physical symptoms are real and persistent, including chronic pain and exhaustion that can last for years. But it was only in 2007 that the NHS officially recognized it as a medical condition.
Jane no longer relies on a stair lift, and walking the family dog Murphy is one of her greatest pleasures…it’s a long way from the young woman whose life was torn apart by an accident on a Surrey street and the years affected by CFS and Fibromyalgia.
Up to Me is the first in a collection of self-help manuals that Jane now plans to publish under the umbrella A Life-Changing Moment. A self-help technique, it joins the dots between the therapies in which Jane trained - first as a specialist sports injury masseuse, working with world-class power lifters and running a sports massage clinic, and later as a counsellor using Reverse Therapy, a counselling technique that helps people identify and control the triggers that prompt their body to create distress signals in the form of symptoms.
