SensiStop! Homeopathic Remedy Clinical Improvement in Periodontitis
It is funny how the most interesting discoveries are often made by coincidence! I am a dentist, and I own a practice in the mid-southern part of Jutland in Denmark.
Dr Helle Steenberg Skov
About three years ago, I was seeing a new patient in my practice, conducting my usual thorough first visit exam, to get a full impression of my patient. By the looks of him, I already anticipated deep gingival pockets, and perio-disease. But when I examined him and probed his gingival pockets they were healthy and fine! No periodontitis! I was quite surprised, and couldn’t help asking “I was expecting you to have periodontal disease, judging from the look of your teeth, but you are well, what are you doing for yourself??”
He was an elderly gentleman whose wife had been searching the internet for healthy solutions for a lot of things, she was now very sick from cancer, but he kept on going for her sake. She had found this homeopathic remedy called SensiStop, that had a positive effect on among other things, periodontitis! He left me with an empty bottle so that I could contact the manufacturer of the homeopathic remedy. And that I did! To make a long story short, we agreed to make a pilot study at my clinic, selecting 14 random patients, testing the effect of SensiStop on periodontitis.
The settings of the study were as follows:
The duration of the study was set to 4 months.
Each patient would fill out a questionnaire prior to the start of the pilot, and would fill out a response form to evaluate themselves when coming to the clinic for their “every 6 weeks controls”. An orthopan tomography x-ray was taken of each patient at the start of pilot, to get an overview of the bone height, initial to the study.
The following parameters were measured on every visit:
- Gingival pockets depth
- Retraction of the gingiva
- Bleeding on probing
- Pus flow
- Mobility of teeth just as the patients were asked to rate themselves at every visit.
The patients received instructions and a schedule to note their intake of the homeopathic drops, gradually increasing to 10 drops 3 times daily.
As with most homeopathic treatment, the patients experienced a slight setback, so-called clean-out symptoms, but after that all patients experienced positive progress.
Total tooth pocket depth in mm – before and after project
Number of tooth pockets ≥ 4 mm – before and after project:
In conclusion to the pilot, it is undeniable that the remedy has a positive effect on periodontitis:
Objective findings during the Pilot Project
- It is noted, with all the participants in The Pilot Project, that the gingiva under the course of the project, changes its appearance from red, swollen and inflamed, to being light pink, tight and healthy;
- Flow of pus from the pockets ceases;
- Bleeding on probing ceases;
- Gingival pockets of 4mm and there over disappear, and those that remain, are reduced in depth. This is also true for the pockets that were deepened because of bone-loss;
- Loosened teeth become less loose.
It seems to be normalizing or redirecting the patients’ immune system, so that it functions as it was intended to, being able to respond to the bacteria in the right way or a more effective way. It does not mean that patients should stop seeing their dentist and/or hygienist for treatments, but the disease is gone, so instead we can help sustain healthy gums!
