Abstract

BRUE and OAKLAND, Department of Psychology and Philosophy at Texas Woman's University in Denton, USA, reviewed (107 references) the case for using complementary/alternative medicine (CAM) for treating attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Background

Up to 3 million children in the USA are affected by ADHD and one of the most common conventional treatments is stimulant medication . However, many parents turn to CAM due to concerns about side effects of stimulant drugs, because they are sympathetic to CAM philosophies and health beliefs, and/or because of unsatisfactory results with conventional treatments.
