Abstract
EWIES, Department of Gynaecology, Leicester University, UK, aymanewies@hotmail.com, reviewed (45 references) available research into some of the more common alternative therapies used by women to treat menopausal symptoms.
Background
Extensive evidence indicates that the benefits of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) outweigh the risks. However, many women and health care providers remain concerned about safety and side effects. Many patients favour alternative therapies. In the USA, menopausal women spent more than $600 million in 1999 on such therapies. This article critically appraises some of the most commonly used alternative therapies.
