Background
Alternative therapies have grown in global popularity during recent decades. Herbal medicines present a major concern in countries where allopathic medicine prevails. Sales of such have increased exponentially. Concerns in the health care professions, particularly in the USA, include lack of quality control; commercial profiteering and exploitation, leading to adulterations; lack of proper knowledge about the herbs and their constituents with regard to drug-drug interactions and other adverse side effects ; and inappropriate usage of herbal products.
