Results
Perineal trauma complications as well as perinatal outcomes are discussed. The risk of stress incontinence and sexual dysfunction is described. New techniques to improve perinatal outcomes and prevention of post partum incontinence are introduced.
Conclusion
Routine episiotomy gives poor effects in most cases. Perineal massage during pregnancy and waterbirth are promising methods to avoid episiotomy and improve the quality of life for post partum women.

The rates for Caesarean section and procedures such as episiotomy are rising, despite the mounting body of clinical literature showing that more conservative methods produce both better outcomes and improve the quality of life following childbirth.
