O'KEEFE and HARRIS, America Heart Institute of Saint Luke's Hospital and Department of Medicine, University of Missouri, Kansas City, USA reviewed (85 references) the cardiovascular effects of marine omega-3 fatty acids.
Background
This paper reviews the evidence for omega-3 fatty acids and coronary heart disease. The interest in marine omega-3 fatty acids was initiated by epidemiological studies in the 1970s, which revealed a significantly reduced rate of myocardial infarction in Greenland Inuits compared with western controls.

There is emerging evidence of the use of omega-3 fatty acids in the prevention of coronary heart disease.
