SAMAREL, Department of Nursing, William Paterson College of New Jersey, Wayne, USA describes the development of a nursing intervention with the potential to help women have more positive experiences during time of breast cancer surgery.

Results

It is believed that therapeutic touch and dialogue will result in decreased state anxiety and postoperative pain and a more positive balance. The author recommends that nurses maintain objective anecdotal records using therapeutic touch and dialogue and that future research includes randomised controlled clinical trials and studies to determine and explore the mechanism of action of therapeutic touch.
