I am the recipient of mountains of correspondence via post and emails; this won't surprise most PH readers, who are also presumably drowning in their own deluge of paperwork and electronic information. As everyone will know from their own personal and professional lives, there is a hierarchy of importance which one attributes to life's messages, which ranges from:

  • Emergency - the house is on fire, being flooded or you or your family are being attacked;
  • Vital but not life threatening - you are being threatened with eviction, bankruptcy or investigation by the Inland Revenue;
  • Personal Emergency – your partner has snapped his Achilles tendon and needs to be in a plaster cast for 12 weeks;
  • Professional Emergency – you are being struck off the register or you have failed your training college's validation this year;
  • Mildly annoying – you are being told off for not paying a bill or forgetting to send a birthday card;
  • Ordinary – you are meeting your friend for weight watchers or going to a birthday party for your grandchildren.
The above somewhat light-hearted treatment of life's vicissitudes, however, don't give justice to the array of awesomely and truly gruesome mixture of communiqués I regularly receive as Editor of PH Online, some of which trigger a genuine soul-searching of what is or is not, responsible to report and which stories should remain consigned to my email folder.

For example, I regularly receive emails regarding the hazards of vaccination, ranging from the dangers of the mercury and other adjuvant materials within, side effects of past and present vaccines, dangers of contamination, credible hypotheses regarding damaging effects of vaccines upon the immune system. I have even received emails with videos advising that the Swine Flu and Mystery Virus currently sweeping through the Ukraine has been deliberately engineered by a vaccine company to trigger a pandemic in order for the company to sell its vaccines. As an Editor who strongly ascribes to the importance of responsible and accurate reporting, particularly in sensitive and controversial subjects such as vaccination, I have to make impossible assessments regarding the veracity or otherwise of sometimes highly alarming assertions which come from the extremes of the medical professional communities – alternative and conventional.

However, when as a Canadian and a Brit I received the following information about armed Royal Canadian Mounted Policy raiding the home of a Canadian Naturopath with machine guns, searching for vitamins, I considered this to be of paramount importance and a sober warning of what could happen in the UK and in fact in every democratic society, if we allow laws to pass which contravene all our constitutional rights, the UK legal system, not to mention our human rights.

You wouldn't expect such dictatorial, storm trooper tactics in Canada; in fact I would find it hard to list a country where such a raid would happen to an ordinary professional citizen, business person and family. Please read the following extract, and the letter in its entirety, published in the Letters to the Editor at  www.positivehealth.com/article-view.php?articleid=2713

On January 15, 2009 my wife Agnes answered the front door of our home and 4 RCMP officers, one with his gun drawn, burst through; the brute force even damaged our locking device.

I will never forget the terrifying look on the face of my wife; I have never seen her so afraid. To describe the panic that I felt is near impossible; I saw as my wife's hands were raised over her head in surrender because an armed RCMP officer had a gun pointed to her chest yelling; "That is not cool, that is not cool."  I thought she was going to be killed. That day's events have permanently scarred my memory and I live with the terror, thinking that it will happen again. I heard my wife say, "Please put the gun away!  We are no harm to any of you. We are humanitarians, not criminals."

The RCMP were clearing the way for Health Canada agents; they entered our home looking for vitamins, including Folic Acid and L-Carnitine, both ultra safe supplements. We sat restricted in our own home for 11 hours while Health Canada agents searched our entire residence, even violating the privacy of our bedroom. Our home safe was opened with RCMP supervision and our personal contents were photographed by Kim Selling (a Health Canada agent).

Nine months have passed and no charges have been laid and my entire inventory continues to be seized.  My case files are sealed and being held from my lawyer. My Incident Report is being refused by the RCMP and my Access of Information request has been denied...
