When I was growing up in the 1950s, learning about the horrors of the Holocaust and witnessing the horror and famine of Biafra, I felt I wanted to commit my life to bringing people together, to heal conflicts. I aspired to become a diplomat or perhaps even work for the World Health Organization WHO - certainly not today! Fast forward some sixty years, I feel even more revolted and disgusted about the unfathomable depths of cruelty inflicted by so-called humans upon other people in conflicts ongoing throughout the world – Syria – Eastern Ghouta, Myanmar Rohingya - watched live by us all on TV. Not to mention the stranglehold exerted by the pharmaceutical and medical system on everyday healthcare.
This strong desire to bring disparate elements and people together has been at the heart of my life’s work - from becoming a scientist in agricultural biotechnology to searching for solutions to famine and food shortages. I segued into Integrated Medicine – Natural Treatment Approaches by writing books and attempts to conduct clinical trials for substances including organic germanium and vitamin C. When I was commissioned to set up a Nutrition and Cancer database for the Bristol Cancer Help Centre – now Penny Brohn – and authored Nutrition and Cancer – Health State-of-the-Art , it became evident that there was a deficit between the amount of published scientific information and the knowledge held by many doctors, practitioners, the media and the general public. This led in 1994 to the launch of Positive Heath PH Online as described in a recently published retrospective article.
I am of course disappointed some 25 years later, in not having witnessed a transformation from pharmaceutical-based drug medicine to an integrated synthesis of traditional and holistic and advanced molecular and scientific medical discoveries and techniques. However, despite not yet arriving at the end goal, I am gratified in viewing and evaluating in the round, the considerable body of work published to date, spanning the complete spectrum of health treatment options and disciplines - mind, body and soul. This valuable archive of some 3,500 articles written by over 1500 authors is a precious commodity which transmutes and communicates the wisdom and expertise of perhaps the most gifted holistic practitioners on the planet to the entire worldwide readership of Positive Health PH Online.
Happy New Year 2018 – may light be sprinkled within the darkness.
