As my partner continues to gradually get better with his shingles and my tmj chewing problem appears to be diminishing, I have been re-evaluating whether techniques for visualization and creating one's future actually produce results. In the past when I have 'religiously' practised a number of systems designed to help you create your own reality, I felt at the time that I definitely was able to manifest the desired outcomes in the real world.

However, time has marched on; when I started these self-help and development courses, I was a sole individual, author and researcher. This was prior to Positive Health PH magazine. Then I was able to 'create' buying a property and starting new ventures in publishing. However, during the past 20 or so years that I have been involved with Positive Health PH, there have been many occurrences when I 'felt' quite positively that a particular remedy would help with a health complaint, but it didn't work, or that I 'felt' that a particular therapy or activity or remedy would not have a positive outcome, but it did. Sometimes a problem would spontaneously resolve without any action or thought on my part.

My reflections on the subject are that there appear to be are realms in which an individual can control aspects of their life. Certainly one can exercise significant control over one's thoughts, behaviour, eating habits, spending patterns, health and exercise routines, etc. However, when it comes to illness, physical injury, this becomes more complicated. If your leg is broken, or your shoulder dislocated, getting therapeutic help from a practitioner is an invaluable part of the healing process. If your illness is more serious such as with cancer, the person may choose a myriad of treatments, nutritional and healing regimes, including conventional treatments; however if these are not successful, it compounds problems if the person blames his or herself for not curing their cancer, i.e. guilt compounds the already terribly burden of a life-threatening illness.

Expert columnist Kay Zega writes in her column in this Feb Issue 179:

"The past 18 months have been challenging for me from the perspective of personal wellbeing. Ironic for an 'expert columnist', professional counsellor, multi-therapist and wellness and positive life change specialist in the field of holistic wellbeing.

"We 'experts in our field' have considerable knowledge regarding what's involved with and necessary to promote and maintain physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellness. As such, as Sandra Goodman says in her blog[1] "the problem with being ill . . . is that it becomes acutely embarrassing if you are a so-called expert who ought to know better" and that "it is evident that so-called experts are just as human and fallible as the rest".

"We support, guide, assist others towards therapeutic change, but do we take our own health and wellbeing for granted? Do we become almost blasé, regarding ourselves as immune to the various maladies with which our clients/patients present?

"As I look back over those 18 months and review the periods of pain, dis-ease and dis-ability, I recall how traumatic the whole experience was. And how enormously frustrating and distressing it was failing to measure up to the high standards I set for myself, being unable to do my work and to meet varied deadlines."

Sometimes things that have been totally blocked unexpectedly resolve. Well, to my delight, I recently received an email from John Sohn of Geranti Pharm in Korea that their Bio-Germanium, which they have been working with clinically for over a decade, has gained FDA approval in the USA as a food supplement.

John Sohn and his company have been working prodigiously to invent a totally new formulation of organic germanium; the results have been successful and now they have the approval from the USA, Japan and Korea for this product as a food supplement.

PH readers may recall that during the mid to late 1980s having researched the clinically immune enhancing properties of organic germanium, I published a paper in Medical Hypothesis, a book Germanium the Health and Life Enhancer and following this was engaged in seeking funding to run a pilot clinical trial to test organic germanium's potential efficacy in the treatment of HIV - AIDS.

However, progress in further clinical research with organic germanium was totally halted following numerous exposés regarding germanium and the publication of renal toxicity resulting from ingesting a germanium preparation which used germanium dioxide rather than organic germanium sesquioxide.

Another 'sensationalist' news headline recently was that statins apparently are not always helpful, particularly for fit and healthy individuals. In all the media interviews I heard or watched, there was not one with an individual who challenged statin drugs as safe, although most of the interviews featured an 'Expert' on statins or cholesterol.

PH Online has featured  a considerable volume of literature documenting the indications and side effects of statins:

as well as authoritative articles, book reviews regarding the role of cholesterol and the potential hazards of lowering cholesterol, when as Dr Peter Dingle PhD writes in his article in this article "Cholesterol is a Symptom, not the Disease".

As always, I urge PH readers to read and consult widely, not to necessarily believe every expert and to subject information to your own internal and external enquiries.
